  • LVEJO provided comments on the draft ‘Master Planned Development’ guidelines initiated by the Chair of the Chicago Plan Commission, Dr. Teresa Córdova, and prepared and released by the City of Chicago Department of Planning (DPD) on October 17th, 2019. LVEJO appreciates the opportunity to review the DPD’s Planned Development (PD) process, and has several recommendations on how the DPD’s process to approve or reject developments can be improved.   • LVEJO proporcionó comentarios sobre el ‘Desarrollo Planificado Maestro’ iniciado por la Presidenta de la Comisión del Plan de Chicago, Dra. Teresa Córdova, y preparado y publicado por el Departamento de Planificación de la Ciudad de Chicago (DPD) el 17 de octubre de 2019. LVEJO agradece La oportunidad de revisar el proceso de Desarrollo Planificado (PD) del DPD, y tiene varias recomendaciones sobre cómo se puede mejorar el proceso del DPD para aprobar o rechazar desarrollos.

  • Extension deadline! Submit your comments on mega developments to DPD@cityofchicago.org 

  • Nov. 18th was the last day to submit a public comment on the new draft guidelines on Master Planned Development! This is very important to everyone in the city, as it will determine the role of community input in future mega-developments!
    • We can’t allow for more projects such as Lincoln Yards, Block 78, or Hilco’s redevelopment of the Crawford Coal Plant to be approved by the city. The majority of communities were against these projects, but by the time people were able to comment on them, deals were made between the developers and former Mayor Emanuel and former DPD Commissioner Reifman. These mega projects were already approved by the DPD before the public ever had a chance to weigh in. This new initiative by the Chicago Plan Commission is looking to change this, and provide opportunities for communities to give input from the beginning of a proposed development. This could be huge for the people of Chicago! Please if you have time, send the DPD an email, and let them know your thoughts on how communities should be involved in planning their own futures!

During this time residents will be allowed to provide written and public comments regarding their concerns. Nov. 12, 2019 starting at 7pm – Little Village Lawndale High School Campus Auditorium, 3120 S. Kostner Ave. Chicago, IL.
    • Check-out this zine youth from Little Village Lawndale High School helped design!
  • Audiencia pública oficial de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Illinois (IEPA) sobre el borrador del permiso BWAY / MAUSER. Durante este tiempo, los residentes podrán proporcionar comentarios públicos y escritos sobre sus preocupaciones. 12 de nov. de 2019 comenzando a las 7pm – en el auditorio de la secundaria Little Village, 3120 S. Kostner Ave. Chicago, IL

  • Little Village Industrial Corridor (LVIC) Modernization Plan update HERE
    • “We are now almost in November, and the community still has no clarity on what will happen with the modernization process. This was a great opportunity to create a plan for the community, a comprehensive Just Transition plan that would help facilitate the transition to a regenerative economy and away from a fossil-fuel-based extractive economy. What would a Just Transition plan for Little Village look like? What about for Chicago? The community deserves to be included in planning its own future.”
  • El Plan de Modernización del Corredor Industrial de La Villita (LVIC) actualizar AQUÍ
    • “Ahora casi estamos en Noviembre, y la comunidad todavía no tiene claridad sobre lo que sucederá con el proceso de modernización. Esta fue una gran oportunidad para crear un plan para la comunidad, un plan integral de Transición Justa que ayudaría a facilitar la transición a una economía regenerativa y lejos de una economía extractiva basada en combustibles fósiles. ¿Cómo sería un plan de transición justa para La Villita? ¿Y que tal para Chicago? La comunidad merece ser incluida en la planificación de su propio futuro.”

  • LVEJO received notice that U.S. Representative, Jesús Garcia – 4th District of IL, sent a letter to IEPA and CDPH expressing their concerns about Hilco’s demolition and remediation process.
