Calling Little Village Artists!
The Little Village Environmental Justice Organization (LVEJO) and the Chicago ACT Collective are collaborating once again in early January 2021! We will to continue to inform residents about environmental justice efforts happening in the Little Village community through an interactive Just Transition Vol. 1, bilingual coloring book for all ages. This effort grew from LVEJO’s current “Hell No Hilco” campaign led by the Just Transition team and support provided by the Chicago ACT Collective to bring popular education through the arts in past summer event in 2020. Project leads: Jocelyn Vazquez-Gomez, Just Transition Youth Outreach team member & William Estrada, Chicago ACT Collective (cc’d on this email).

🚨Little Village Institutions need to hear from residents and neighboring communities about the Hilco/ Exchange 55 – Target Warehouse Facility 🚨
Recall during our last virtual community meeting, we shared that a *group of Little Village institutions are trying to set-up a meeting with Target Corporations about Hilco’s Exchange 55 development and possible community benefits. They want to hear from you! They want to know if residents are worried about public health, semi-truck traffic, air & land pollution, any interests in continuing the development with more community benefits.
To be clear, LVEJO is not part of the *group because after decades of campaigning for clean air and pushing for a just transition at the Crawford Coal Power Plan site and in Little Village, a warehouse logistics facility is not what residents envisioned. Especially after the environmental disaster earlier in April (during a pandemic) and City of Chicago’s lax consequences, we therefore uplift our continued demands for Target Corp to break their lease, Cook County to rescind the 20 million dollar tax break Hilco received in 2019, and for Hilco to vacate the Crawford site or for the City of Chicago exercise its rights under Eminent Domain to secure the Crawford & Fisk sites from Hilco Redevelopment Partners. Encouraging folks to visit:https://lavillitarespira.com/ & take a look under the tabs “Diesel Dangers” & “Resources.”
The *group of organizations that are overseeing the results of this survey include: Beyond the Ball, Central States SER, Little Village Chamber of Commerce, New Life Centers of Chicago, St. Agnes Church, Instituto del Progreso Latino, Erie Neighborhood House, La Villita Community Church, Warehouse Works for Justice, Universidad Popular, and Enlace Chicago. Please complete the attached survey and help circulate. It only takes 3 minutes and it will help us gather feedback from the community. Take survey://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Hilco-target

El *grupo de organizaciones que supervisan les resultados de esta encuesta incluye: Beyond the Ball, Central States SER, Little Village Chamber of Commerce, New Life Centers of Chicago, St. Agnes Church, Instituto del Progreso Latino, Erie Neighborhood House, La Villita Community Church, Warehouse Works for Justice, Universidad Popular y Enlace Chicago. Encuesta ://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Hilco-target
